There’s a bunch of music stuff going on this weekend (too bad my little SIL wasn’t still here). Here’s the quick break down:

  1. Fri 7/30 @ 9pm – Salome (CANCELED), Altar of Plagues, Castevet, Velnias, Black Cat Wash DC $10
  2. Sat 7/31 @ 5 pm – Paramour w/Tegan & Sara and more at Merriweather Post, Columbia, MD $21-$36
  3. Sun 8/1 @ 8pm (SOLD OUT) – Lights (aka Valerie Anne Poxleitner) at Jammin Java, Vienna, VA $15-$20
  4. Sun 8/1 @ 8pm – Frazey Ford (of the Be Good Tanyas) at IOTA, Arlington, VA $15 (no pre-sale)

Remember that you can’t buy advance tickets at IOTA shows. Just show up ahead of time. I love that about that joint.

Also coming in Aug 25-26 is UKE FEST! If you like the ukulele check out the FREE summer concert Uke Fest at Strathmore. Local duo Sweater Set will be there!

The Greencards at Jammin’ Java 7/23 @ 7:30pm

On July 23, 2010, in Concerts, by Magnolia Guitar

So my little sister-in-law is coming to visit us in the “city.” If she’s up for it, I hope we get to see some music this weekend. If you get a chance… you should too!

The Greencards, which sound a little like another trio–Nickle Creek– is performing at Jammin’ Java in Vienna, VA this Friday, July 23 7:30PM. The tickets are only $18 and it should be a blast. Jammin’ Java is a great place.

Also there’s 5 bands performing an early show at the 9:30 Club on Saturday July 24 at 6:00pm. Performing are: Crash Boom Bang, Boys Will Be Boys, Mercy Mercedes, Struan Shields, and From Coast to Skyline. Tickets are only $12, so what can you lose?

UPDATE: We missed seeing The Greencards, but we did get to see some of the bands playing at the 9:30. Of the five bands we saw Mercy Mercedes, Boys Will Be Boys, and Crash Boom Bang. All in all, it was a pretty good. High-energy and fun. The Washington DC band, Crash Boom Bang know how to work an audience (at one point a tiger and a snowman came out on stage and threw out glow sticks at the crowd!), but I think my favorite of the night was another hometown band, Boys Will Be Boys from Fairfax, VA. It’s good to good music performed by people who are really enjoying themselves.

And I’m glad to say that, I was definitely not the oldest person in the room!
